The real-time chatbot in AI-School can now use tools while you are talking to it. This means you can also ask current questions and get answers based on an internet search.

Some tools are used automatically when relevant. These include internet search, consulting the user guide, and—only within your own conversations—searching your chat history. This allows the chatbot to better respond to your question without you having to search first.

In addition, there are tools you can use as needed, such as checking the weather, searching Wikipedia, and calculating or analyzing information with Wolfram Alpha. In AI-School, you can also search for SLO learning objectives and suitable teaching materials in Wikiwijs.

This is useful, for example, when you want to check up-to-date information while preparing a lesson, are looking for a learning objective, or need quick inspiration for open educational materials. The tools available depend on your environment’s settings.

Start a real-time conversation and ask your question as you normally would. AI-School uses available tools when they help provide an up-to-date and relevant answer.

New Gemini and Claude models for fast tasks, everyday teaching and complex analyses.

Three model options in AI-School have been updated. Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite and Claude Opus 5 are now available and replace their direct predecessors.

Gemini 3.6 Flash replaces Gemini 3.5 Flash. It is a strong choice for everyday teaching tasks where speed and quality come together: preparing research, creating explanations, developing teaching materials, providing feedback and working with documents or images. The model offers a good balance of speed, intelligence and cost efficiency.

Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite replaces Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite. Choose this model when you perform many short, practical tasks and want to keep costs low. Examples include a brief explanation at different levels, translations, initial feedback on a student text or simple questions about an image. It is the fastest and most cost-effective option of the three.

Claude Opus 5 replaces Claude Opus 4.8 as the top model. This model is suited to tasks that require extra care and depth, such as complex research questions, detailed feedback, analysis of long documents, coding or important writing assignments. The model prioritizes quality and is therefore particularly suitable when an answer can cost more and there is less time pressure.

All three models support image input, reasoning and tools. This means you can also include images in a prompt and, where available, enable tools. Choose the model that fits the task: Flash-Lite for many fast tasks, Flash for a versatile balance and Opus 5 for the most complex assignments.

The updated models are now available in AI-School when selecting a language model.

Within AI-School, you can use helpful assistants to give students additional explanations, provide feedback, or help them practice the lesson material. Whereas previously you had to manually configure all settings, system prompts, and models, AI-School now helps you take care of it. Starting today, you will find the new Create Assistant with AI button on the Assistants page.

With this new feature, you can start a short, smart workflow. Simply enter a name and provide a brief description of what the assistant should do—for example, a “history assistant that helps students learn about the French Revolution” or a “spelling-checking assistant.” AI-School takes care of the rest and immediately generates a complete proposal.

This proposal includes a suitable name, an initial prompt, an optimized system prompt, and the most suitable language model. Any additional tools, such as internet search, are also configured automatically if they are useful for the task. You review the proposal, make any necessary changes, and save it. The assistant is then immediately ready to use in the classroom!

Quickly find previous lesson plans and documents by simply asking for them in the chat.

Does this sound familiar? Last week, you designed a fantastic lesson series or created a useful set of assignments, and now you want to build on it. Instead of manually scrolling through and searching your previous chats, you can now simply ask AI-School to search your history.

Behind the scenes, AI-School uses the new automatic Search chat history tool for this. When you ask in the chat about previous work, the assistant immediately searches for relevant excerpts and information from your earlier chats. For example, you can ask: "What was the structure of the history lesson we created last week?" or "Can you pull up the feedback tips for last night's test?" The assistant retrieves the relevant details, allowing you to continue with your preparation right away.

The tool works fully automatically in the background and is enabled by default. You therefore do not need to configure anything yourself. Naturally, privacy and security have been carefully considered: the assistant searches only within the chat history of your own logged-in account and respects your school's retention period. In addition, the assistant is shown only relevant text excerpts and concise summaries to answer your question—not complete chat conversations all at once.

With this update, you can save valuable time when preparing lessons and organizing your schoolwork. Try it out today by asking AI-School about one of your previous assignments!

To make a positive and tangible contribution in response, we have set ourselves an inspiring mission: for every school that works with AI-School, we plant a tree. This quarter, we requested no fewer than 144 new trees through the Trees for All foundation! These trees will be planted in specific forest projects to offset CO2 emissions and restore biodiversity.

Together with the 50 trees we planted at an earlier stage, the total now stands at nearly 200 trees. Thanks to the participation of your schools, our shared AI forest continues to grow steadily. In this way, we are contributing not only to the digital skills of the future, but also to a greener planet for generations to come.

Meet Luna, Terra and Sol (GPT-5.6) for your teaching practice

A great update is ready for you in AI-School! We have added the latest generation of OpenAI models to our platform: the GPT-5.6 series. These powerful models were not developed by AI-School itself, but integrated directly by us so that you and your students can start using them immediately in the classroom.

The new models are divided into three levels, which you can easily remember by considering the size of celestial bodies:

• Luna (moon): The smallest and fastest model. Ideal for quick, everyday questions and simple programming assistance for students.
• Terra (Earth): Our new default choice. This powerful model delivers performance comparable to the previous top model, GPT-5.5, but works much more efficiently. It is particularly well suited to designing complex assignments and generating detailed lesson materials.
• Sol (sun): The largest and most advanced model. This top model is ideally suited to highly complex, demanding reasoning and in-depth analyses.

To keep things clear, we have set GPT-5.6 Terra as the default for everyday use. This gives you excellent quality and reasoning power right away, without requiring you to change any settings yourself. Administrators can decide in the administration environment which specific models are made available for each target group or subject area.

In addition, the website is now truly accessible to everyone. As of today, we support 20 different languages, which is useful for international teams or multilingual educational environments. Connect AI-School to your school processes and automate repetitive tasks

As of today, it is possible to start n8n workflows directly from the workflow overview in AI-School. This creates a smart bridge between AI-School and the systems your school already uses. It is ideal for automating recurring tasks outside the app thanks to the many integrations n8n has to offer.

Suppose your school has an n8n workflow that publishes news articles on the school’s WordPress website. In AI-School, you now only type a short idea or a few sentences about a project week or sports day. Then you start the n8n workflow. Behind the scenes, a language model turns it into a polished, suitable text in the school’s tone of voice, a matching image is generated, and the post is immediately ready as a draft on the school website.

If a workflow requires input fields, AI-School first opens a clear form. After filling in the fields (such as text, numbers, or a date), this data is securely sent to n8n via a protected webhook as a JSON package. Does a workflow not require any additional input? Then the action starts immediately with the press of a button.

Would you like to get started with this, but does your board not yet have an n8n environment or need help with the setup? AI-School is happy to help school boards get started by setting up their own secure n8n server. In addition, our team actively supports the design and development of workflows that fit the processes at your school.

Starting today, a powerful update is ready for you in AI-School. We have updated the trusted Claude Sonnet model to the very latest version: Claude 5 Sonnet. This update brings significant improvements for everyone using the model for everyday educational tasks.

Claude 5 Sonnet performs noticeably better than its predecessor. The model is stronger at logical reasoning, understands complex instructions better, and can write more nuanced texts. In terms of intelligence and problem-solving ability, this model now comes very close to the advanced Claude Opus. You will notice this immediately when, for example, you ask it to create a complex lesson design, rephrase detailed feedback on student texts, or work out coding assignments for computer science lessons.

You do not need to change anything yourself to start working with the new model. If you were already using Claude Sonnet in a chat or workflow, it has automatically been updated to the latest version. You will find the model as usual in the selection menu of your chat session.

Connect Google Drive or OneDrive and save documents directly in the right place

Have you just created a useful lesson plan, a new test or an interactive assignment in AI-School? From now on, you no longer need to download these documents to your computer first and then move them manually. With the new Drive connections feature, you can easily link your own online folders to your AI-School account.

You can connect Google Drive (including Shared Drives), OneDrive and SharePoint. After linking your account once, use the folder picker to select the specific folder you want to use. You can even create multiple connections for different subjects, classes or projects.

As soon as the connection is active, you can send files from File Manager or directly from the document view in AI-School to the chosen online folder with one click. That way, your teaching materials stay neatly organised within your school’s cloud environment, without unnecessary extra steps.

Want to get started? In AI-School, go to your Preferences, choose Drive connections and click Add connection to link your favourite school folders.

The AI-School desktop app has long made it possible to work directly with folders and files on your computer. With the latest update, this feature has become much more powerful. We’ve added full support for the most commonly used school files: Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm), PDF, and Word (.docx). This allows you to work faster and more securely with your own documents.

What’s new?

• Native Excel support: You can now read, write, edit, and search Excel sheets directly through the app, without needing external tools. Ideal for quickly analyzing a grade list or updating a lesson plan, for example.
• Direct PDF capabilities: AI-School can now not only read text from PDFs, but also create new PDFs from markdown text or modify existing PDF files for you. Useful for quickly generating polished worksheets or tests for the classroom.
• Advanced Word support: You can read, create, and accurately edit Word documents (.docx) directly. In addition, AI-School can convert your finished lesson plans or tests from markdown into a ready-to-use Word file in no time.

Why is this useful? Because the desktop app works directly on your computer, you no longer need to manually upload files to the platform first. This saves time and ensures that sensitive teaching materials or student data remain safely on your own computer or school network.

How does it work? Make sure you’re using the latest version of the desktop app. In the app, go to Settings -> Local files and add the folder you want to work in. AI-School can then get started right away with the Word, Excel, and PDF files in that folder.

Helps administrators ensure a smooth start for staff and students

A good start is half the battle, especially when introducing a new digital tool in the classroom or school team. To help schools with this, AI-School has significantly expanded its onboarding options. From now on, administrators can send new staff members and students a welcome email directly from the admin environment. This way, they immediately know how to log in and where to go with questions.

In addition, it is now possible to set up a mandatory onboarding video for users the first time they log in. Think of a short introductory video explaining the school’s vision on AI, or a practical explanation of how AI-School helps with lesson preparation. Users must watch this video in full before they can start using the app for the first time.

Setting it up is very easy. In the admin environment, go to the Onboarding tile. Here you can add text and select a video that has been prepared in advance in video management and marked as suitable. Because staff members and students use the app differently, you can set up a separate welcome message and video for both groups. You simply send the welcome email by selecting users under staff or students and clicking the email button in the toolbar.

In AI-School, the ‘Text to Image’ button lets you work much more precisely on strong images for your teaching materials, explanations, or presentations. You’ll find this button as the second button directly below the input field on the dashboard. What makes this feature especially useful is that you don’t just generate an image — you can also actively steer the result. You can experiment with colors, style, and dimensions, so the image better matches what you want to convey. You can also add images for inspiration to make it clearer which direction you want to go in. In addition, you can easily work from version to version, allowing you to keep improving an image step by step. With annotations, you can indicate very precisely what should be changed, so you can make targeted adjustments. This makes creating images in AI-School not only easier, but also more creative and goal-oriented.

Speaker recognition in transcripts and the arrival of Gemini 3.5 Flash

New models are now available in AI-School to help you work even more efficiently. The main addition is the new model for the transcription module: gpt-4o-transcribe-diarize. With this model, it is automatically recognized when a different speaker is talking. This makes transcribing interviews with students, meetings with colleagues, or lesson recordings much more manageable, because the text is immediately divided by person.

In addition, we have added Gemini 3.5 Flash to the range of language models. This model is specifically designed for speed and efficiency. It is ideally suited for tasks where you need an immediate answer, such as generating short text suggestions, translating assignments, or quickly answering questions during lesson preparation.

You can easily select the new Gemini model via the model picker in the chat. The improved transcription with speaker recognition is used automatically when you start the transcription module for your audio recordings.

With these updates, we offer more clarity in your documentation and more speed in your daily work. Enjoy trying out the new models!

Document creation in AI-School is now fully tailored to the needs of your school organization. You can choose from two ways to generate documents: through free input or by using specific school templates.

When you choose Free input, you have maximum freedom. Based on a prompt, the AI drafts a document for you, while you determine the content and structure yourself. This is ideal for unique documents that are not tied to a fixed format.

In addition, AI-School now supports working with Templates. These are fixed formats prepared by your own school, such as templates for lesson plans, parent letters, or reports. This ensures that your document immediately complies with the applicable guidelines and the school's house style. The AI fills in the required fields for you, after which you can download the result directly as an editable Word file.

To help you make the most of these features, we have added three new explainer videos:

• Free input: Learn how to quickly create a custom document from a chat message.
• Working with templates: Discover how to use the preconfigured templates from your school.
• Template management: A special video for administrators on adding and managing the school's own formats.

Een aparte pagina is opgenomen over Veiligheid en AVG. Daarop leggen we precies uit hoe de beveiligingsmaatregelen werken, welke subverwerkers er zijn en wat er nu eigenlijk achter de schermen gebeurt als je aan het chatten bent.

Als er een nieuwsfeit is dan zie je dat direct bij het inloggen. In het standaard beginscherm staat nu een melding: Nieuws! met daarbij een korte omschrijving. Als je het hele artikel wilt lezen kun je op de Meer nieuws button klikken. Dan wordt je direct naar de Nieuwspagina gebracht. Je kan natuurlijk ook altijd later dit lezen. Ga daarvoor naar Support en kies in het menu daaronder voor Nieuws. Al het nieuws wordt daar bewaard en door naar beneden te scrollen kun je de gehele nieuwsgeschiedenis volgen.

De app is nog volop in ontwikkeling. Dus regelmatig zal een update plaatsvinden. Bij de app updates zal het versie nummer vermeld worden. Alle updates blijven op de Nieuwspagina staan. Je kunt dus altijd terugvinden wat de laatste wijzigingen zijn.

Nieuwe presentaties​

Alle nieuwe presentaties die toegevoegd worden aan de Kennisbank zullen we op de Nieuwspagina zetten. Zo mis je nooit een nieuwe presentatie en de toelichting die daarbij hoort. Je kan deze meteen gaan uitproberen en zo je AI-skills weer verder ontwikkelen.
