System Prompts

The System Prompts tile in the AI Settings area lets you set default instructions that are automatically sent to the AI at the start of every conversation. System prompts guide the behaviour, tone, and boundaries of the AI for your specific environment.

What is a system prompt?

A system prompt is a hidden instruction given to the AI before each conversation. The user does not see it, but the AI takes it into account. Examples of use:

  • Instruct the AI to respond in a specific language or style
  • Restrict the AI to specific subjects or topics
  • Provide extra context about the environment or target audience
  • Set guidelines for safe and responsible AI use

System prompts per role

Separate system prompts can be configured for:

  • Students (school environments only) instructions specific to student conversations
  • Staff instructions for teachers, administrators and other staff members

Viewing the default system prompt

AI-School uses a built-in default system prompt. You can view it via the View default system prompt button on the page. If the fields are left empty, the default system prompt is used automatically.

Configuring a system prompt

  1. Go to the management environment
  2. Select the System Prompts tile
  3. Enter the desired system prompt for students and/or staff
  4. Click Save

Tips for a good system prompt

  • Keep instructions clear and concise prompts that are too long can confuse the AI
  • Write in the language your users speak
  • Test the prompt by starting a new chat and checking the behaviour
  • Leave the field empty to use the default AI-School prompt
